Chairman’s Report
Welcome to the AGM of Wayfarers tennis club.
The courts are holding up well and showing only minimal wear and tear. Money is put aside each year to cover the cost of replacing the surface when necessary.
Planning permission received for the proposed padel court Sept 2010.
£26K funding offered by LBH Chrysalis fund but we would have to manage the project ourselves. They would not be able to proceed until the next financial year.
Meeting organised with Green Spaces Dept to determine how to proceed.
The clubhouse is looking good thanks to Rod Chamberlain. The bar is working well thanks to Ciarra & Kirsty.
American tournaments now held alternate Wednesdays – more support please.
Social functions still need more support. The club relies on this much needed funding. So far this year we have several events planned e.g. St. Patrick’s night, quiz night, darts evening etc. All functions listed in our newsletter.
Club auction planned for Saturday 12th July 6pm with BBQ to follow.
Glebby Cup Sunday 2nd May.
Subscriptions will remain the same apart from the junior and intermediate section where the prices have been slashed to encourage new young players.
This year we will be running 4 men’s teams and 4 ladies teams.
We were sorry to lose our coach who left in September. Kirsty McDonnell and Ciarra Hayes are now covering the coaching program with Steve Skov running the Sunday morning novice group.
Looking to the future the new committee intend to look at the coaching program to see if more can be done to promote all areas of our club.
Mike Walesby and Richard Stockford have both decided to step down from auditing the yearly accounts and John Goodall and Vish will cover this in the future.
Treasurer’s Report re Year End Accounts 30/9/2010
Once again the club has had a satisfactory year financially; subscription income was steady. , As we have not had any expensive maintenance projects, we were able to release provisions held. Thus the club showed a surplus of £7K, and ended the year with a healthy £20K (up from £14K in 2009), in the bank. This unfortunately dwindles by approx £1k per month until the new subs year starts. There will be 2 major calls on this money, the first is our contribution to the Padel Court Project if it goes ahead, although current cost estimates put this in doubt, the other is to fund the replacement of the carpet on courts 4,5and 6. This will be £30k plus and probably be in approx 6/7 years’ time.
Net income from social activity was up on last year, thanks mainly due to the Ickenham Festival. Thanks to the members who gave up valuable time to help with this and other projects.
Clubhouse hire yielded £560 a little down but still significant
The bar turnover was well down at £8.5K – (£13K last year), therefore profit was also well down. However still profitable and important for the club. The main reasons being – less social drinking and a bad winter where play was impossible.
Maintenance has dropped dramatically following the completion of recent major projects.
Electricity costs have stabilized, we constantly check the market when contracts come up for renewal in order to get the best deal.
Once again I would like to thank Richard Stockford and Mike Walesby for auditing the accounts and as they are both standing down thank them for generously giving their time over the past few years.
As ever thanks to all the club and committee members for their continuing support and the general running of the club.
Coaching Report
We are hoping to extend our adult coaching program from the Sunday morning group headed by Stev Skov to a further 2 more adult groups on a Tuesday and Friday during the day.
Details of these will be on the notice board and website in the near future – we would like to see new faces and all are welcome.
Myself and Kirsty are also available for individual coaching as is Steve at certain times.
Ladies training started this week and will continue until the beginning of the match season.
Again new faces are always welcome.
We are planning to hold an adult mini red tournament in the near future, please watch out for details.
The junior group sessions have dramatically increased over the last few weeks due to the improved weather conditions.
In the last 6 months we have introduced a girl only squad which has proved to be very successful encouraging girls who had slipped off the tennis radar to become regular junior players.
We have entered 4 junior Aegon teams, more than ever before which is a positive step for the club.
We are in the middle of a project called March-Fest where we offer a 6 week free course for local teenagers between the ages of 11-18 years to introduce them to the world of tennis. We currently have 27 attendees at these sessions. Last year a similar project introduced several new members. In the last 6 months we have 18 new junior members.
The 2011 junior tournament is up and running and all age categories are looking healthy as is the Road to Wimbledon.
The mini section of the club is running well with 4 weekly sessions. We are also running 4 county tournaments throughout the summer here at Wayfarers.
We have entered 1 Aegon mini team.
We would like to congratulate the 7 juniors who were recently accepted as intermediate members, we look forward to seeing them at social sessions.
This time last year Wayfarers juniors were ranked 125/126 in Middx. Our rating is currently 68/126.
Our regularly competing juniors have risen from 13 to 25
7 of our juniors have successfully increased their LTA rating which means they are competing at a much higher level.
Once again we will be running a sports camp the first week of Easter.
We are holding an Open Day on 20th March for both adults and juniors.
Thank you to all junior members for their help in painting the back room and to those who helped raise money for paint etc with car wash and cake sales.
Finally we would like to thank Sam Grill and Gemma Lovitt for their support during coaching sessions.
Subscriptions
Senior subscriptions are to remain the same whilst the junior and intermediate categories have been slashed to encourage more youngsters to join the club.
Members please note that in order to benefit from the reduced early payment scheme they must pay before March 31st –This date will be strictly adhered to.
